THE ARCS OF KUROKO NO BASKET
1. TEIKŌ ARC
Nicknamed the
“Teikō Arc” by Kuroko no Basket fans, this story arc tells the history of
Tetsuya Kuroko and the “Generation of Miracles” during their years at Teikō
Junior High. It is one of the main arcs in the third season of the anime. The
arc begins when Kuroko joins the basketball club and is placed in the third
string due to the clubs large numbers. The arc follows Kuroko’s journey into
joining the Generation of Miracles on the main team and the rest of their
middle school years. It explains the reasons why Kuroko quit the team and how
the Generation of Miracles began to drift apart. Though written near the end of
the series, this arc is important to this story because it leads to the Best in
Japan Arc, Aomine Arc, What is Victory?, and the Akashi Arc.

2. BEST IN JAPAN ARC
This is the main
arc of the story that is easily identifiable. This arc depicts the character
development for Kuroko and Kagami, as well as moves the plot along. The arc
begins when Kagami is interest in the Generation of Miracles and makes a bold
statement about wanting to crush them and become the best player in Japan.
Kuroko adds onto this statement with his philosophy of teamwork and changes
Kagami’s mindset to a team. In addition to the two main characters, this arc
also follows Teppei Kiyoshi and Junpei Hyūga who promise to become the best
team in Japan the preceding year. However due to Kiyoshi’s injury, the promise
is to be fulfilled the year Kuroko and Kagami join the team. This arc follows
the basketball team of Seirin in becoming the best team in Japan.

3. INTERHIGH TOURNAMENT
The Interhigh
Tournament is the main of the first anime season and the first half of the
manga. It is apart of Seirin’s quest to become the best team in Japan. It can
be considered a sub-arc of the “Best in Japan Arc.”

4. WINTER CUP
The Winter Cup
basketball tournament is the main arc of the second anime season and the second
half of the manga. It is one of the tournaments Seirin participated in to
achieve their goal. It is another sub-arc of the “Best in Japan Arc.”

5. SENIOR'S REVENGE
This is a sub-arc
to the main arc. The arc “Senior’s Revenge” depicts the second-year’s goal to
defeat Kirisaki Daiichi. This arc is because Makoto Hanamiya injured Kiyoshi in
order to win the match and was not caught. The seniors of Seirin were furious
and were seeking revenge during the Winter Cup tournament the following year.

6. AOMINE ARC
This is sub-arc to
the main arc to help Daiki Aomine realize that is not the best player out there
and should be less arrogant. After his bloom of abilities, he began to ignore
teamwork and practice. Kuroko wanted to help him realize that no matter how
talented he was, there should always be the motivation to become better. This
arc follows Aomine’s realization of a new rival, Kagami.
AOMINE VS KAGAMI
7. BROTHERS & RIVALS
This is one of the
main arcs to Kagami’s character development. This is because this arc helps him
to resolve his issues with Tatsuya Himuro. This arc begins when Kagami and
Himuro begin to basketball together. They considered each other brothers.
However, when Kagami began to become stronger, Himuro wanted to be his rival
and was jealous of him. To resolve this conflict, Himuro demanded a match, and
if Kagami were to win, they would no longer be brothers. This sub-arc was
resolved in the Yōsen vs. Seirin match.
YOSEN VS SEIRIN
8. WHAT IS VICTORY?
This is one of the
main arcs in the series. It resolves Kuroko’s conflict with himself and one of
the underlying themes in the story. This arc follows Kuroko’s question about
“what is victory?” which was first asked after Teikō’s “supposed” third
nationals championship where his team humiliated Kuroko’s childhood friend.
They really hurt Kuroko, but made him seek an answer. The answer reveals itself
throughout the series and the meaning can be inferred by the time Seirin faces
Rakuzan.
9. AKASHI ARC
This arc is not
one of the main arcs in the story, however, it helps to understand Akashi more.
It helps to understand how he has become so superior to other players and
students, and also why his personality suddenly changed. From the arc, we learn
that Akashi actually has a split personality, one that is “perfectly” honed by
his strict father, and one that is caring, and kind. At the end of the arc,
Akashi’s personality reverts to the one before and he is returned to his normal
self again.
